Ciara & Russell Wilson Give Us The Secret Sauce To Leveling Up Your Marriage

Hard work and intentionality make for a really dope union.

Ciara and Russell Wilson have a love as strong as Megan Thee Stallion's knees, and recently, the couple spilled all the tea on how they keep their marriage poppin' like the 4th of July all damn year.

The couple, who initially made their relationship public in 2015 and married only a year later, is constantly serving up some of the most adorable moments the internet has ever seen and it's clear that for these two, the honeymoon is never-ending. CiCi recently opened up to PureWow about their holy matrimony and revealed that their journey is one that has required intentionality and hard work. She explained:

"We make sure to make an effort to balance and make time for our marriage and our relationship."

Ciara revealed that the key to her and her husband's balancing act has been consistently making time for one another despite their very busy schedules. Surprisingly, the secret to spicing up your marriage can be as simple as scheduling a date night (or week):

"The way that we really balance things is that we commit to date night and we make a conscious effort to do that. Literally, we don't miss it. If I travel for longer than a week, we make sure that right when I get back, date night happens and sometimes we end up doing two date nights in a week because we just missed out on one prior."

The "Level Up" singer and her husband celebrated their 3-year wedding anniversary four months ago in Fiji and say that although sometimes their time together is limited, they make sure to spend it wisely. The mother-of-two explained:

"Yes, we were in Fiji. I was thinking about South Africa. We went to South Africa the year before, which was our official honeymoon because we didn't get to do a proper one after we got married, but we did go to Fiji… and that was really fun! It was a short, quick trip for us, but really good."

When it comes to family planning, Russell Wilson is all over it and uses every opportunity he has to slip in a request for a fifth addition to their family of four. While in the past, Ciara has been bashful about her husband's suggestions, she recently told Extra that she could easily see their family grow into a family of 8.

"If you ask [Russell], we're talking eight babies. We'll just go one day at a time, but I definitely do look forward to having more kids … We got time for that."

This is something that I've been wanting to write about for a while now. There are a few reasons why too. One is that I grew up hearing that happiness is an emotion — and a fleeting one at that; that's why the focus should actually be more on being in a state of joy. Secondly, I can't tell you how many times I have looked a husband or wife in the eye as they told me they were leaving their marriage — not because of infidelity or abuse; it was simply because "I'm not happy anymore" (more on that in a bit). And three, I also can't tell you how many times a day will go by without me hearing or reading some variation of "do whatever makes you happy". LAWD.

So, here's the deal about store-bought lubricant. Oftentimes, when people think about using it, it's in reference to "treating" vaginal dryness or making sex easier post-menopause (when our vagina walls tend to be thinner and our natural lubrication isn't as much as it once was). However, as you're about to see in just a few minutes, it really doesn't matter how wet you're naturally able to get or how old you are, everyone should have at least a few tubes of lube in their possession — an oil-based kind for non-penetrative sexual stimulation; a water-based one for sexy toys (or if you or your partner's genitalia is naturally sensitive) and a silicone-based one for intercourse.

We all know the feeling. You plop down in a stylist's seat excitedly waiting for your slay to begin, only to be met with a look of panic when they actually lay eyes on your hair. As a woman with thick and coarse 4C textured hair, I know that gaze well. Sadly, so do most Black women, and it's been an ongoing problem in the entertainment world for decades.
