With Fall around the corner, it's time to mentally prepare ourselves for the cold-weather outfits we missed the previous year. Although it feels like we've been playing catch up, this season, we're picking up where summer is leaving off by transitioning the chicest trends into cold weather combinations one look at a time. If you've been shopping wisely this summer, then you'll have plenty of items already in your closet to mix and match for fall.

This year, fall ready-to-wear collections are bolder, brighter and more exciting than what we've seen as of late. Call it the "Roaring 20's" or pure optimism but it's a stark contrast from last year's at-home-inspired trends. Designers are implementing patterns and features that inspire us to live in the moment, allowing our sense of style to do the talking for us. I'm excited to come with the looks next season as I curate my closet utilizing my existing summer favorites.

These are the latest trends I'm currently obsessed with and refuse to let go next season and beyond.

1.Platforms

This year there has been a rise in platforms. With the late 90's and early 2000's being a major trend throughout the fashion and beauty industries, the era was dominated by higher than life platforms. From heels to sneakers, chunky soles are dominating the current shoe trends and I don't see the end of this trend any time soon.

2.Slip Dress

One of my favorite looks during warm weather months is a slip dress. With this classic dress style, it's easy to transition for fall paired with a sneaker or a boot and a jacket, if needed. Adorn with your favorite chunky accessories and a handle bag for even more sass to elevate this super chic look.

3.Geometric Prints

There's something about geometric prints that add an artistic element to every look. Super modern, we've seen a rise in heavy prints this summer and will continue to enjoy them this fall.

4.Asymmetrical

This summer I got my hands on as many asymmetrical looks I could buy. I love this sexy sleek trend and can't wait to see more styles this fall. From clothing items to boots and accessories, get ready to take this trend up another notch.

5.Cut Outs

As I get older, I'm learning that modesty is the best policy. While I do like to show skin here and there, I prefer to leave some things up to the imagination. The cut out trend is one of my favorites this year due to the classy and subtle details when a cut out is placed in all the right places. For fall, I'm looking forward to the combination of cut out knitwear this season.

6.Wide Leg/Utility Pants

Wide leg utility pants are my favorite switch-up this summer. The lightweight alternative to thick sweatpants, I can't get enough of this pant style and will continue them into next season. Add a sneaker or pair with a sleek pointed toe boot for the perfect oversized look this fall.

7.Completely Sheer

Sheer tops are trending this summer, worn with a crop cami or bikini top for a pool side look. This fall, add into your rotation by laying with a full length cami or layered under your favorite jacket. Go for a long sleeve for extra coverage paired with a straight leg pant and a pump to elevate your see-through look.

8.Bucket Hats

Bucket hats are a classic head piece that has seen a huge rise in popularity over the last few months. I'm loving the transition from summer styles to the faux furs that make this accessory more chic and fashion forward. Set the tone with a matching set paired with a textured bucket hat for a head to toe cold weather moment.

For many Black women, getting a relaxer was a rite of passage, an inheritance passed down from the generation before us, and perhaps even before her. It marked the transition from Black girlhood to adolescence. Tight coils, twisted plaits, and the clickety-clack of barrettes were traded for chemical perms and the familiar sting of scalp burns.

A 5-Year Healing Journey Taught Me How To Choose Myself

They say you can’t heal in the same place that made you sick. And I couldn’t.

The year was 2019, and I knew I had to go. My spirit was calling me to be alone and to go alone. It was required in that season. A few months prior, I had quit my job. And it was late 2017 when I had met trauma.

What Loving Yourself Actually Looks Like

Whitney said it, right? She told us that if we simply learned to love ourselves, what would ultimately happen is, we would achieve the "Greatest Love of All." But y'all, the more time I spend on this planet, the more I come to see that one of the reasons why it's so hard to hit the mark, when it comes to all things love-related, is because you first have to define love in order to know how to do it…right and well.

Personally, I am a Bible follower, so The Love Chapter is certainly a great reference point. Let's go with the Message Version of it today:
