Crisp mornings decorated with orange and red leaves, thick layers, and warm pumpkin spice lattes are a few reasons why fall is a favorite for many. It's around this time of year I start digging out my coziest sweaters and transitioning my favorite summer items. The cold weather swept in fast and looks to stay awhile.
A lot of people don't consider how inexpensive the colder seasons can be. Yes, you want a stylish coat and potentially a pair of animal print boots, but otherwise, you can get away with whatever. For the most part, autumn has a few key pieces: longline coats, boots, eye-catching blouses. Many times you can recycle the same trends over and over again, keeping your looks fresh but your budget down.
Every season doesn't require new clothes, nor should they. Here are some pieces you can invest in now, and wear for many falls to come.
Lace Detail Blouses.
One good blouse can take you far, believe me. The great thing about layering: you can re-wear pieces without many noticing. When you have an item like a lace detailed blouse, you're killing three or four birds with one stone. You can wear it under a sweater with the collar poking out, under a cozy maxi dress to jazz it up, or simply by itself.
The devil's in the detail and that's why lace blouses are perfection. The lace detailing is right on trend with the Victorian influences we saw on the spring runways. It also adds a layer of class to any outfit. You can pair it with an oversized blazer or a pair of crisp black pants for work; change it up with a colorful midi or distressed boyfriend jeans for a day with the girls. This sort of blouse compliments anything and can be worn for any occasion or outing.
Even though over-the-knee boots are still riding high in 2019, the tall boot is making a comeback. This is a boot that hits between mid-calf and below the knee and can be seen in a variety of ways. Spring runways showcased slouchy and structured boots, a slew of animal prints, and a few cowboy-inspired designs. This boot trend comes with an added bonus: a much lower heel.
This style of boot is timeless, which makes it extremely easy to style. To channel 70's boho chic style, pair it with your favorite long-sleeve maxi and a structured blazer. You can also modernize the look with skinny jeans and an oversized wool sweater. A tall boot can be paired with almost anything and is a fundamental item for any woman's wardrobe.
A newer trend that's not going anywhere, teddy coats are the snuggly version of the beloved trench coat. The lines are clean and on the longer side. This is a fun silhouette you can dress up or down. Last year, we saw oversized teddy coats everywhere. This year, the cut is a bit cleaner and flattering. Teddy coats are the perfect addition to make any outfit stylish.
For a super comfy look, pair it with your favorite jeans and sneakers. If you're more of a risk-taker, try a fitting midi dress to pair underneath. It creates an understated sexy look that flatters every shape and size.

Tia Mowry has a refreshing take on divorce. The Sister, Sister star stopped by TODAY with Hoda & Jenna and opened up about divorcing Cory Hardrict and why instead of looking at ending her marriage as a failure, she is looking at it as a "graduation."
“I knew when I really started to focus on my happiness,” she said when asked when she believed her marriage was over. “I feel like women, we tend to focus on everybody else’s happiness, making sure that everybody else is okay — meaning our children, our friends, our family."
“But at the end of the day, it’s about self-love. When you start to really work on yourself, love yourself, know your value and know your worth, then all of a sudden, there’s this awakening. And it’s not easy. It’s a hard journey, but at the end of the day, I feel like it is so, so worth it.”
The 44-year-old’s social media followers have had a front-row seat to her self-love journey. Over the last couple of years, Tia has shared inspirational posts about self-love, self-care, and happiness. Sprinkled in were also adorable moments with her family. She shares two children with the All-American: Homecoming actor, Cree, 11, and Cairo, 4.
While surveying her life, she started therapy and also uncovered that she was dealing with a bit of sadness. “I feel like when I started to, again, like I said, focus on myself, but there was this sadness. And I knew that life is short,” she said. “I had actually lost my grandmother. We had lost Alaina Housley (Tia’s twin sister Tamera Mowry Housely’s niece who was killed in the 2018 California mass shooting.) And both of them at the same time.”
She continued, “There was just an 'aha' moment in me where I said, ‘You know what? We need to tap in, see what’s really going on with your happiness. Life is short. Let’s go. Let’s start working on you and really focusing on what really, really matters here, which is at the end of the day, your peace, your joy and your happiness.’”
Tia announced her divorce from Cory in an Instagram post on Oct. 4 after filing the day before. The divorce documents cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their marriage’s demise. The Game actress, however, is looking at the end of her marriage through a different lens.
“My marriage was a success. I look at it as like a curriculum when you’re in college or high school. You’re learning, you’re growing, you’re evolving, you’re creating. I was able to create with Cory some beautiful, amazing children,” she explained. “At the end of that curriculum, there's a graduation, there’s a celebration. So that’s basically how I’m looking at it now.”
“And I feel like ... when (people) look at marriage, success equals longevity. But, no, at the end of the day, it’s are they happy? Are they thriving? Are they growing? I feel like that is what is most important. It’s not about staying in something because however long you are in that situation that equals success. It’s about really, again, are you happy? Because life is really short.”
Tia and Cory were married for 14 years.

Okay, I know what you’re thinking: WTF is a liquid vibrator? Or you might even be wondering, Does a liquid vibrator work the same way as a regular vibrator? I admit, when I first heard the term ‘liquid vibrator,’ I was a bit curious and confused as well. Turns out, a liquid vibrator isn’t a vibrator at all, it’s a clitoral arousal gel. Aphrodisiac herbs and other elements such as ginger, leaf oils, and sometimes menthol are used in arousal gels to enhance sexual pleasure.
Clitoral arousal gels have been on the market for quite some time. However, with so many types of liquid vibrators on the market, it's hard to know which is the best option. Upon doing some research, I discovered Buzz by Doc Johnson produces pleasurable pulse-like sensations that leave your vulva all tingly. I was dying to experience those 'pulse-like sensations' for myself, so I had to order a bottle. I’m single AF so any type of clitoral excitement was worth a try.
Doc Johnson's Buzz Liquid Vibrator Review
How to Use the Buzz Liquid Vibrator:
Buzz Liquid Vibrator comes in a small, discreet tube, similar to that of lip balm, that can easily fit in your purse without drawing suspicion. The gel's formula is made from natural ingredients and is paraben-, glycerin-, and sugar-free. Rather than being runny, it has a semi-thick texture that allows it to stay in place. For the most part, there was no sticky residue and it essentially stayed only in the areas I applied it.
As per the directions, I applied two to three drops onto my clitoris. The angled tip on Buzz makes it super easy to use to apply. Simply squeeze one to three drops on your finger then apply to your vulva or whatever erogenous zone and wait. There was a light buzzing sensation upon application but nothing to write home about. It warmed my clitoris within three to five minutes but never really escalated to a tingle. I waited about 30 minutes to see if the sensations would intensify but they never did.
Looking back, maybe I should've added more gel, but I was afraid to overstimulate my clit.

Do Liquid Vibrators Actually Work?
I waited for lightning to strike, but when nothing happened, I thought I might try the liquid vibrator on my nipples.
If I'm being completely honest, I love nipple play. Playing with my nipples is a must during sexual encounters. I added two drops of Buzz to my nipples but then decided to add some extra for good measure. After about a minute, I started feeling a very light, warm sensation on my nipple. Instead of tingling, it felt like the warm feeling you get when someone lightly plays with your nipple.
The feeling lingered around for a pretty long while after I applied the gel. I could still feel it stimulating my nipples almost an hour after I put it on. I'm barely capable of focusing on anything for more than 30 minutes, so it was refreshing to feel that arousal for longer than my usual 10 minutes.
My Thoughts on the Liquid Vibrator Overall:
Overall, Buzz Liquid Vibrator didn't turn me into a one woman orgasm-having machine. I was underwhelmed by the lack of 'pulse-like sensations' I felt on my clit. But baby, those nips though! Those nips were thoroughly pleased! I think next time I’ll try using it while having sex to see if it brings me better orgasmic results.

Hair Tales, the new OWN six-part docuseries hailing from the minds of noted documentarian and executive producer Michaela Angela Davis, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and everyone’s best friend in their head Tracee Ellis Ross who produces and hosts the series, tells the beautifully complicated relationship Black women have with our hair through a historical, political, and sisterly context.
Each episode uses the story of a famous Black woman we’ve all come to love and adore as a conduit to discuss the larger cultural context in which our relationship with our hair exists. xoNecole has compiled a list of our favorite moments from the series packed with standout moments.
“Our strength, our beauty, our power is in our crowns … but we are not those things also” — Tracee Ellis Ross
In the episode centered around Representative Ayana Pressley, she speaks about the painful decision to cut off all her hair after suffering from alopecia totalis, which caused her hair to come out in clumps. However, Rep. Pressley’s journey of losing her hair liberated her, so much so that after wearing a wig on the house floor once, she decided from then on to show her head in all its glory.
“What I admired about women who changed up their hair a lot is that they were free” – Dr. Tiffany Gill
Our favorite Awkward Black Girl Issa Rae talks to Tracee about the decision to cut off all her hair over a decade ago. Her journey with her hair would intertwine with her personal and professional journey as she launched her hit web series with the premiere episode showing her character shaving off her hair. “I was born — I was reborn — in a new way,” she said. Looking at her hair throughout the years, you can track the evolution of Rae as a person by the varying hairstyles, as she has admitted in an interview that she started experimenting with her hair more as she learned more about it.
“If we can legislate hurt and harm, then we can legislate healing and justice” — Ayanna Pressley
The Crown Act, a bill co-sponsored by Pressley, seeks to end hair discrimination against Black people in schools and in the workplace. The bill, which is currently sitting in the Senate, if passed would be a bold step forward in combating toxic ideals about who or what is or isn’t considered to be professional. That not only could natural hair be beautiful, but it could also exist in the workplace and classrooms.
“I live in God’s dream for me” — Oprah Winfrey
The executive producer of Hair Tales Oprah Winfrey speaks about her own relationship with her hair, which dates back to her childhood. She was taught that straight long hair was what was considered to be the pinnacle of beauty. The award-winning host even recalled a moment early in her career when her boss insisted she straightened her hair, even going as far as to recommend plastic surgery in order to assimilate to white beauty standards.

Over the last couple of years, social media and the internet has uncovered the various ways people decide to wash their bodies (some surprising, I must admit, and some not.) There have been numerous debates on whether we should use washcloths, suds up our legs, or even shower on a daily basis. Side note: Did you know that bathing with hot water can be detrimental? (I mean, is it really a shower if the water isn’t scorching? Just me? K.)
Additionally, with hygiene routine videos (think sparkly body washes and exfoliators galore) dominating the YouTube and TikTok airwaves, finding the best way to wash your body seems to be all the rage right now. And while most of us have been bathing ourselves since we can remember, there’s nothing wrong with updating your GRWM (get ready with me) routine.
In the name of #selfcare, medical and cosmetic dermatologist, DiAnne Davis, MD, FAAD, has provided tips and pertinent info that will help combat bacteria, battle B.O. and give our skin a healthy glow. Can I get an amen?
Between washcloths, loofahs, or using your hands, what’s the best way to wash your body?
“I usually recommend a soft cloth or washcloth for showers, especially those areas that harbor, a lot of bacteria, which include the armpits, groin area, and feet,” Dr. Davis explains to xoNecole. “Washcloths can always be laundered and reused versus loofahs that tend to retain a lot of bacteria and are not washable or able to be used after so many uses in the shower. Washcloths should be dry before each use. Reusing a damp washcloth is a no-no because it may accumulate bacteria which can be transferred to your body the next time you use it.”
How often should people shower? Is it bad to shower every day?
“I usually recommend that people take showers at least once daily,” says Dr. Davis. “While some dermatologists may recommend that you can shower less frequently, even three times per week, I will say that I do not recommend that you shower multiple times throughout the day because that can be extremely drying for the skin. It’s also important to remember that showers should be less than 10 minutes and with lukewarm water because extremely hot water can also dry out the skin.”
Is it important to use a separate washcloth for your face?
FG Trade/ Getty Images
“I think this is definitely a personal preference. What I explain to patients is that it is okay to use a washcloth for their body however, I always recommend that whenever washing your face [to] use your hands,” says Dr. Davis.
What should we look for in a good body cleanser?
“There are so many great cleansers on the market,” notes Dr. Davis. "It may come down to if there is a specific concern that the patient has, which can help determine what may be the best cleanser for their body. For example, if someone has oily or acne-prone skin, they might want to look at a cleanser that contains salicylic acid to help exfoliate the pores and treat blackheads. However, if a patient has sensitive or dry skin, they may want to look for a cleanser with ceramides and/or colloidal oatmeal.”
In terms of skincare, could you talk about the importance of moisturizing and how often we should moisturize?
“Moisturizing your skin is just as important as washing it on a daily basis,” elaborates Dr. Davis. “Moisturizers should be applied within the first two to three minutes after showering to not only moisturize the skin but also create a barrier to prevent transepidermal water loss and keep the skin hydrated and plump in appearance. It is wise to moisturize twice daily, especially if you have dry skin and/or during the winter season.”

Let’s make one thing clear, we support Black women– period. Megan Thee Stallion has become the latest example of the mistreatment Black women often face when speaking up for themselves. Since July 2020, when reports first surfaced that Megan, born Megan Pete, was allegedly shot by singer/ rapper Tory Lanez, she has had to deal with the dual trauma of the initial shooting and the subsequent harassment by Lanez, his fans, powerful people in the music industry, and the overall effort to discredit her.
Gun violence is an issue that continues to disproportionately impact Black women. According to a 2022 study, “Black women are three times more likely to be fatally shot by an intimate partner compared to white women.” (Megan has denied having an intimate relationship with Lanez.) During a particularly fraught time in hip hop, when we’ve lost so many artists to gun violence, including the recent murder of rapper Takeoff, it’s difficult to witness the continued minimizing and victim blaming of Megan by her peers in the business.
xoNecole has compiled a timeline of the events that unfolded following Megan’s shooting, including members of the industry who have seemingly undermined her story.
Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez: A Timeline of Events

“Dumb bitch that shit ain’t fucking funny who tf jokes about getting shot by a nigga,” Megan tweeted.
Michele would later apologize saying that her attempt at a joke fell flat and that "I truly don’t glorify domestic violence... I was trying to say just love me deeply."
July 23, 2020

She continued, “You really fucking dragging it. Motherfuckers talking about I hit this nigga. I never hit you. Motherfuckers like, ‘Oh she mad ’cause he was trying to fuck with Kylie.’ No, I wasn’t. Like, you dry shot me. Like, everybody in the car – there’s only four motherfuckers in the car: me, you, my homegirl, and your security. I get out the car, I’m done arguing. I don’t wanna argue no more. I get out, I’m walking away. This nigga, from outside the back seat of the car, start shooting me. You shot me!”
She also addressed rumors that the injury to her foot was actually caused by broken glass. “I ain’t get cut by no glass, but let me tell you why they’re saying that: the people in the neighborhood –there’s a witness – when the police came because the neighbors called the police – this did not happen at Kylie’s house.” She continued, “This happened damn near back at the house I was staying at. I was just trying to get home. We were five minutes away from my spot. The police come and I’m scared.”
“All this shit going on with the police. The police are shooting motherfuckers for anything. The police was literally killing Black people for no motherfucking reason. Soon as the police tell us all ‘Get out the motherfucking car,' the police is really aggressive,” she explained. “You think I’m bout to tell the police that we – niggas, us Black people – got a gun in the car?! After a party, I was shot twice as I walked away from him. We were not in a relationship. Truthfully, I was shocked that I ended up in that place.
My initial silence about what happened was out of fear for myself and my friends. Even as a victim, I have been met with skepticism and judgment. The way people have publicly questioned and debated whether I played a role in my own violent assault proves that my fears about discussing what happened were, unfortunately, warranted.”
October 20, 2020
