Over the holiday break, we were all ecstatic to learn that our girl, Naturi Naughton had become engaged. And since the big day, she has been sharing the beautiful details that we can't get enough of.

Our favorite part? A few days before Christmas Day, she was told that she would be attending a photoshoot for family holiday pictures. Turns out, a proposal was on the horizon...for both her and her daughter, Zuri.

Naughton welcomed Zuri in July 2017 and split with her ex shortly after her arrival. Naughton has since been balancing motherhood, and her booming acting career (Tasha St. Patrick in the hit Starz series Power and its spinoff Power Book II: Ghost), on her own.

That is until she was introduced to her now fiance', Mr. Bae (she's not ready to share his identity yet).

On How They Met:

" Omari Hardwick and I were recording a song together and Omari was like, 'oh you gotta meet my people'. On that night, I met this kind, handsome, southern gentleman who would love me like I've never been loved. From that point on, we talked every day, quietly dated and fell in love. Thank you, TV hubby, for introducing me to my future hubby!"

Ghost, of all people, introduced her to her soulmate, y'all. Whew!

On How He Proposed:

"This amazing man of mine planned this whole photoshoot, complete with my glam team and stylist might I add, for me and my daughter with matching princess dresses. All I had to do was show up!
"He promised to take care of me and my daughter, then he asked would I 'do life with him forever' and I said, 'YES!' The most beautiful part of the proposal is that he gave Zuri a ring too, with her birthstone (Ruby) in it. My fiancé said that his commitment to me is also a lifetime commitment to her."

She continued:

"Zuri admired her ring, then said, 'Oh For me?' She was so happy. It makes me happy that they have a great bond as well. Any man that I would choose would have to know that Zuri and I are a package deal!"

On How Far She's Come:

Naughton may be taking in all the moments and not rushing to the altar anytime soon, but that certainly doesn't mean she doesn't know how far she's come. She once told MadameNoire:

"Being a single mother doesn't have to mean you're unhappy: I bought my first home a few years ago, I star on 'Power' and I'm dating again. I didn't get married, and I don't have a fairy-tale love story (yet), but I'm stronger than ever and having fun too."

It's the optimism and confidence for all the possibilities, for me.

Congratulations, Naturi and Zuri!

Because We Are Still IT, Girl: It Girl 100 Returns

Last year, when our xoNecole team dropped our inaugural It Girl 100 honoree list, the world felt, ahem, a bit brighter.

It was March 2024, and we still had a Black woman as the Vice President of the United States. DEI rollbacks weren’t being tossed around like confetti. And more than 300,000 Black women were still gainfully employed in the workforce.

Though that was just nineteen months ago, things were different. Perhaps the world then felt more receptive to our light as Black women.

At the time, we launched It Girl 100 to spotlight the huge motion we were making as dope, GenZennial Black women leaving our mark on culture. The girls were on the rise, flourishing, drinking their water, minding their business, leading companies, and learning to do it all softly, in rest. We wanted to celebrate that momentum—because we love that for us.

How Les Alfred & Kayla Greaves Built Their "It Girl" Brands With Intention

It’s not always easy being an “It Girl,” but Les Alfred, host of She’s So Lucky podcast, and Kayla Greaves, beauty expert, reporter and consultant, never promised it would be. Instead, the two creators are forging their own paths based on resilience. Les originally launched her podcast, formerly Balanced Black Girl, from her bedroom in Seattle after creating fitness content elsewhere online.

Last year, she left her corporate job to scale the Dear Media-hosted series, which she rebranded earlier this year. Meanwhile, Kayla has worked as a journalist and editor, including for InStyle as Executive Beauty Editor. In 2023, she left the company to focus on consulting, hosting and speaking engagements.
