It was the split heard around the world. On Dec. 21, news swirled of Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin divorcing after nine years of marriage. Social media went into a frenzy as many people questioned the once beloved couple’s reasoning for ending their marriage.

Both Meagan and DeVon were deemed “couple goals” by fans and they were open about their relationship. In 2015, they co-wrote their New York Times Bestseller The Wait: A Powerful Practice for Finding the Love of Your Life, where they discussed the benefits of waiting until marriage to have sex.

And DeVon, who is a pastor, always went to bat for Meagan whenever someone from the church community would speak negatively about the Harlemstar due to her occupation as an actress.

The 40-year-old even revealed earlier this year on Established with Angela Yee that she was ready to start a family saying, "I’m ’bout ready. It’s taken me a long time to get here.”

So what went wrong? Who knows? But both of them have taken the high road when coming to their separation.

In a joint statement to People, the couple said, "After much prayer and consideration, we have decided to go into our futures separately but forever connected."

"We celebrate almost a decade of marriage together and a love that is eternal. There's no one at fault, we believe this is the next best chapter in the evolution of our love."

They continued, "We are incredibly grateful for the life-changing years we've spent together as husband and wife. We are also extremely thankful to God for the testimony being created inside us both and for blessing our lives with each other."

They later took to their perspective Instagram pages and made similar statements regarding their separation and their love for one another.

However, DeVon took it a step further when he was asked about their divorce. The 43-year-old studio executive was leaving the gym in his hometown of L.A. and was asked by paparazzi if he and Meagan were still friends.

DeVon responded, “Man, that’s the love of my life.” Meagan has yet to respond to DeVon’s comment.

The couple was reportedly separated for four months prior to DeVon filing for divorce, however, DeVon celebrated Meagan’s new show Harlem on Amazon Prime Video on Instagram in December.

He wrote, “Y’all not ready for this!!! I’m so proud of my love @Meagangood! She’s one of the most talented actors on the planet AND she’s funnier than you may know but I’m so glad you finally get a chance to see her do it all as Camille Parks in the new Amazon show.”

To which, the actress responded, “My Loooove💜 .. thank you 🙏🏾 Heart’ah’smilin 🥺🥺🙏🏾🙈😭. Love you!”

Hopefully, both Meagan and DeVon can continue to be positive toward one another amid their divorce.

We Outside: How NYC Third Spaces Are Reimagining Community

The millennial in me is nostalgic at best...and at worst, deeply, deeply yearning. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the past.

In the days of old, community was never hard to find. It was a knock on the door from a neighborhood friend who needed no invitation. It was trading jokes over lunch and lingering strolls after the final bell. It was choir practice on Saturdays and giggling in the pews on Sundays.
