FKA Twigs Gets Candid About Her Painful Uterine Fibroid Recovery

FKA Twigs entered the music industry at 17 as a backup dancer for UK stars like Ed Sheeran and Kylie Minogue and made her way onto the Billboard 100 with a project of her own by the time she was 26. Now, the 30-year-old artist has garnered a number of high-level relationships, a loyal following, and partnership with major industry leaders like Apple and Nike.

Her unapologetic blackness and genre-bending ballads combined make her a force to be reckoned with and there's nothing in this world can stop her shine, except for of course, uterine fibroids.

Uterine fibroids are especially prevalent among women of color, of which many cases are never diagnosed. The small tumors typically develop early in a woman's life and grow larger, causing a number of complications including severe pain and infertility. Women are infinitely powerful, so ain't about a bitch that an issue as big as kiwi can pretty much stop our entire world from turning?

FKA Twigs is among the women that are on a mission to take that power back from the pint-sized culprits terrorize thousands of women every day. The singer recently released a short video via Instagram TV that detailed her painful road to recovery and her journey to reclaim authority over her uterus from it's oppressors.

The artist originally announced her battle with fibroids in May, which she said had grown to the size of 2 cooking apples, 3 kiwis, and a couple of strawberries. She said she had been scarcely seen on the scene because she was dealing with six very painful tyrants that seemingly put her life on hold. She shared that she had laparoscopic surgery nearly six months ago to remove the non-cancerous tumors.

"The nurse said that the weight and size was like being 6 months pregnant.I tried to be brave but it was excruciating at times and to be honest I started to doubt if my body would ever feel the same again."

The singer went on to share her journey to recovery with her fans and had a message for other women who struggle with the same issue.

"I had surgery in December and I was so scared, despite lots of love from friends and family I felt really alone and my confidence as a woman was knocked.
but... today whilst dancing with Kelly at the choreography house I felt like my strong self again for the first time in a while and it was magical. thank you precious body for healing, thank you for reminding me to be kind to myself, you are a wonderful thing, now go create and be other once again <3

I know that a lot of women suffer from fibroid tumours and I just wanted to say after my experience that you are amazing warriors and that you are not alone. you can get through this.

and with this I let go of the pain... love always twigs."

Although uterine fibroids had seemingly stripped the songstress of her power temporarily, with the support of loved ones and some dedication to self-care, FKA Twigs is back and more powerful than ever.
