5 Steps To Reclaiming Your Time & Getting The Most Out Of Your Day
Every morning is the start of something great and has us ready to do our hair toss and check our nails *cue Lizzo*. But by the time we brush our teeth and unwrap our hair, the day tends to fall into the rut and pattern of the ones before.
Before we know it, days, weeks, months and even years have gone by before we realize that we haven't been making our days great. Instead, our days have been making us tired and exhausted. It doesn't have to be this way though.
By making small steps like these on a daily, we can make the most out of our time and flourish with a meaningful life.
1.Wake Up Earlier
Have you ever wondered how some people are SO much more productive? We all have the same 24 hours in a day (blah, blah, blah), but sometimes, it seems like other people get blessed with a couple of extra hours at the top. Well, that's actually true. While some of us are rolling over and hitting the snooze button, others are tapping into their discipline and rising and shining hours ahead of time.
Getting out of the habit of waking up just in time for work and being intentional about waking up earlier to knock out your to-do list before you even leave the house can create some pretty meaningful changes. You'll feel more energetic and make the most out of your day.
2.Do Something That Makes You Nervous
Sometimes, it's so easy to get into a funk because we're doing the same thing day in and day out. Where's the motivation in that? No wonder we feel depleted, uncreative and uninspired. Meanwhile, we're watching others live their best lives feeling like we're not worthy of doing the same. If this is you, try something new… literally.
Do something every day (or at least every week) that makes your palms sweaty. Take a risk and get out of your comfort zone. You'll not only find that your life can truly be meaningful but also realize that you're getting closer to your goals that you might have been too afraid to go for in the past.
3.Have Conversations That Inspire You
It's no secret that conversations we have with others can make or break our day. So why not let it make your day count? Whether it's a conversation with a friend or a coworker, talk about something that excites you. You never know what kind of inspiration you might get out of it, or even what type of encouragement you could offer. All it takes is a conversation about your dreams, goals, and things that put a smile on your face.
Sometimes we can be so afraid to share things with others out of fear that they'll "hate" on it, or just not be supportive. But having conversations about things you love with people you trust can help you become more fulfilled and purposed by the end of the day.
4.Journal It!
Journaling is the gift that keeps on giving. Whether they were good or bad, it's so amazing to look back on dreams, thoughts, goals, feelings, and ideas that we once had. It shows the growth and progress that we might not have even realized we made. Sometimes having a more meaningful life is just capturing the one that you already live.
We might feel like we're too busy in the hustle and bustle to take time to sit down and reflect (and even remember) how far we've come. But writing journal entries for just a few minutes a day can push us toward the life we think we don't have time to live.
5.Thank God!
No matter what happens each day, finding something to be thankful for can create such a refreshing mental state. I once received the advice to write down 10 things I'm thankful for before I go to bed, and it's been life-changing! On those days we go to bed convinced that something won't work out, or that our lives are just blah, we can be thankful for things that did work in our favor that day, even if it's something as (seemingly) small as making it to work on time, getting around safely and our health. Keeping an "attitude of gratitude" is what keeps our lives full and meaningful.

This New Scalp Care Line Is Exactly What Your Wash Days Need

When it comes to healthy hair care, there are a few things that will help you achieve healthy strands: a healthy hair care regime, hydration, consistent treatments, and scalp care. While scalp care is one of the most neglected practices, it is also one of the most important. Why? Because it helps promote healthy hair growth, clear hair follicles, and remove build-up.
When it comes to creating a healthy scalp routine, it helps to know exactly what you’re up against so you know how to specifically treat it. Two of the most common concerns are dandruff and dry scalp. It can be tough to decipher which is which, but here’s a quick breakdown: dry scalp is caused by a lack of moisture in the skin, while dandruff is caused by an excess of oil and yeast buildup on the scalp. Knowing that both of these are big concerns, SheaMoisture released two separate product lines to address both issues: the Scalp Moisture collection and the Anti-Dandruff collection.
Needless to say, if you tend to experience dandruff then I’d recommend you try the Anti-Dandruff collection. However, my biggest concern has always been dry scalp. A lack of moisture on the scalp can be caused by several factors like weather, age, and hair products to name a few. I’ve noticed that when I use certain gels or skip out on a deep scalp cleanse, my roots feel itchy and dry nonstop, which is uncomfortable.
The only way to relieve the discomfort is to properly wash and moisturize my roots, so I tried the Scalp Moisture collection and this is what I thought.

First, What’s In The Collection?
The Scalp Moisture collection is a four-product line that includes a pre-wash masque, a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, and a moisturizing scalp cream. Each product uses moisturizing and strengthening ingredients like aloe butter and vitamin B3 as active ingredients to provide eight times the moisture. Together, aloe butter and vitamin B3 work to restore dry and brittle hair, as well as add relief to the scalp.

Scalp Moisture Pre-Wash Masque
The SheaMoisture Scalp Moisture Pre-Wash Masque may actually be the all-star of the collection. Using this deep conditioning masque is one of the best ways to target your dry scalp, restore hydration, and nourish your strands before shampooing.
I started by completely saturating my hair and scalp with water, then making small sections to apply the masque directly to the root. For my girls who have experience with relaxers and perms, it helps to apply the masque to your roots just like you would do with a relaxer. This way you can make sure you’ve covered as much of your scalp as possible while minimizing any breakage.
Pro tip: you can also use a color application brush to make this step easier.
After I completely covered my scalp, I massaged the product into my roots, used any excess on my strands, then left the masque in for 30 minutes. I was shocked by how moisturizing and clarifying my scalp and hair felt. One of the things that I love about the masque is the slip and how much softer it made my hair. While this is marketed as a scalp care product, it can completely transform your hair from dry and parched to completely hydrated.
In my opinion, the downside of this masque is that the quantity is too small for my liking. Truth be told, naturals go through deep conditioners faster than any other product (especially when it’s this good.) So SheaMoisture, if you’re reading this, we’d love a bigger jar.

Scalp Moisture Shampoo
The SheaMoisture Scalp Moisture Shampoo is a gentle cleanser packed with the same moisture as the masque. The pearl-colored shampoo is lightweight with a serum-like consistency and a light and clean scent. The smell is pleasant, subtle, and not overbearing. When I applied the shampoo, I noticed immediately that it foams and lathers up very quickly, so less is more.
After applying the shampoo, I parted my hair and started at the roots to target as much of my scalp as possible. I recommend really taking the time to work the product and massage your scalp as much as possible.
Pro tip: using a scalp massager makes it easier and it feels amazing.
Once you start to massage your hair you’ll feel the product start to work. There’s a tingling sensation that might catch you off guard if you’re not used to it, but it’s not nearly as strong as other scalp products I’ve tried. I know some may not appreciate the sensation, but I loved it! My scalp felt clean, light, and breathable.

Scalp Moisture Conditioner
Like the shampoo, the SheaMoisture Scalp Moisture Conditioner shares that pearly color and serum-like feel. It applies very easily while softening and moisturizing your hair. When I applied it to my hand, it gave my hands a lotion-like feel, which speaks volumes about its hydration capabilities. I also loved that the conditioner comes with a pump, instead of having to squeeze the product out – to me, it makes application easier.
I typically apply my conditioner to the ends first but because this is a scalp care product I started at the root and worked my way down to my ends. I did leave the conditioner in for ten minutes, although the bottle recommends leaving it in for three. The conditioner also provides that same breathable feel to your scalp. I honestly loved the relief.

Scalp Moisture Cream
The SheaMoisture Scalp Moisture Cream is more of a daily relief product for your roots rather than your overall hair. It’s great for providing moisture and immediate relief to a dry and itchy scalp. Just like most of the collection, it gives a light and breathable feel – without the tingle. The applicator bottle targets specific parts of your scalp and makes applying easier.
Pro tip: I typically just squeeze the bottle to wherever I need the relief and use the tip to massage it into my scalp so it doesn’t mess up the hairstyle.
Overall, SheaMoisture’s scalp care line lives up to its claims – it moisturizes, strengthens, and provides immediate scalp relief. I definitely recommend trying the Scalp Moisture collection for an affordable way to treat itchy and dry scalp.

Alicia Keys Says She Was 'Embarrassed' To Ask For Help Early On In Her Career
Singer and entrepreneur Alicia Keys recently recalled the challenges she encountered early in her career, prompting her to create a mentorship program for young women.
Keys rose to fame in 2001 following her debut album, Songs in A Minor. The album, which featured the hit singles "Fallin'" and "A Woman's Worth," would ultimately sell over 10 million copies. Throughout Keys' two-decade career, the "If I Ain't Got You" vocalist has participated in various acting projects, created a skincare brand, released nine studio albums, sold more than 65 million records worldwide, and won countless awards.
Since then, Keys has taken the knowledge she has learned within the entertainment industry over the years and is sharing those gems with the creation of her mentorship program, She Is The Music. During a June interview with Metro, the 42-year-old opened up about She Is The Music and why she felt an organization like this would have benefitted her early on in her career.
Alicia Keys On She Is The Music Program And Her Early Career Struggles
She Is The Music was founded in 2018 by Keys, Jody Gerson, Sam Kirby, and Ann Mincieli. The outlet reports that Keys' inspiration for the nonprofit organization stemmed from a study she saw the year before about the lack of "female creators in the industry." She Is The Music's mission is to support and guide young women in all aspects of the music industry.
In the discussion, Keys --who was promoting Uncharted, a documentary that showcased the behind-the-scenes look of She Is The Music's songwriting camp-- raved about the mentorship program and explained that she would've enjoyed being a part of it during the early stages of her career due to the various challenges she encountered when seeking mentors.
"I think about that a lot. I've talked a lot about the way that I didn't always feel like I had mentorship, or I didn't know who to reach out to," she said. "I didn't really know if they would want to help me, or I felt embarrassed about it. I think it's really beautiful to create an organization like She Is The Music, where you feel like you can create a sisterhood."
Further, into the interview, Keys added that She Is The Music is more than just about opening doors for young women. The mother of two disclosed that although each person that joins the mentorship program would be given opportunities to work alongside established women, the main goal is to create a sisterhood.
"You can have a place to go where people care about, maybe giving you opportunities to learn under another established woman. Or in a business sense of something that you're interested in," she stated. "I definitely think I would have felt more inclined to reach out and create more of a sisterhood and really know that we can work together and create what we want for ourselves and the world."
On Not Feeling Shameful
Inc. reported that most people feel shameful about seeking help for any particular situation because it isn't ideal for individuals to talk about a problem they may be facing. Another factor contributing to the shame is that mentors usually aren't getting paid for their services.
The publication said that although it may not be ideal to some, in the corporate world, many are always asking others, including the higher ups for advice or help with their issues because it is for the betterment of everyone involved.
On Taking The First Steps
In finding a suitable mentor, one can't be afraid to take the first step.
According to Inc., many professionals are always trying to find ways to "give back to the community," even if it means offering their guidance and knowledge in a particular field. But because those professionals aren't actively seeking mentees, you have to take the first step.
Taking the first step may mean taking the person out for coffee and starting a "conversation to pick their brain" about a particular subject. This tactic could form a long-term relationship that could benefit your career.
On Setting Boundaries
The third and final rule of landing a mentor is to set boundaries early on.
Setting boundaries is important because you want to avoid taking advantage of someone willing to help you. Due to mentoring being, at most times, an unpaid gig, it is essential to only ask for help when needed. Inc. suggested that the one way to set boundaries after obtaining a mentor is to ask them for their availability and preferred contact method.
Hopefully, these three tips have provided some insight into how to land a mentor.
