Do you guys remember last February when singer, Mya posted a pic of herself in a wedding gown, and the world went nuts? We all couldn't contain our excitement as we collectively wondered who the lucky guy was that the notoriously private singer was now married to. Well, as it turns out, the picture was from her music video, "The Truth", so she didn't get married that day. #wompwomp

But, in an interesting turn of events, we discovered that the crooner has actually been married this whole time...to herself. That's right, our good sis, Mya, recently revealed that she has been married and committed to herself since 2013, and the details came flooding out on a recent episode of Fox Soul's Out Loud with Claudia Jordan.

Mya said she chose to wed herself in order to take ownership of her own life.

"I did a music video where I married myself and the Internet went crazy when a wedding photo was leaked first and I just went along with it. Because I actually did marry myself in real life at the end of 2013."

And since, she has managed to dodge the continuous questioning by having fun with the moment, and not saying anything about it at all. She continued:

"I didn't even say anything. I just said 'thank you.' A lot of people kept asking me, like, 'Who's the lucky guy?' I said, 'Well. It's not a guy at all…' It was actually really fun. Some of the interpretations were out of this world, but things happen and things get misconstrued. But it's been a beautiful ride."

Impressively enough, marrying yourself, or sologamy, has actually been a 'thing' for a few years now as more and more women are choosing to put themselves first. Supporters of the practice argue that it affirms your own value to yourself by taking the steps to live a happier life. Others say it's pure narcissism, but whichever way you choose to look at it, Mya decided to take part, and define marriage, her way.

"It was all about self-care, self-love and getting myself back after a toxic relationship. Last year, I renewed my vows stepping into a new year. It's not about anything like 'all men are bad' or anything like that. It's really about becoming your best self and making sure that you're leveling up in all aspects of your life."

Now, that's what I call self-love.

Beautiful passionate african american couple having a romantic candlelight dinner at home and celebrating their love together. Concept of love and relationship. Kissing and bonding. Copy space.

Hmph. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like there is something really weird happening in the fall season air (because winter doesn’t officially begin until December 21) that cuddle season is in full swing while break-up season is as well. In fact, did you know that break-ups are so popular during the holiday season that December 11 is deemed Break-Up Day?

The reasons why relationships shift around this time vary; however, I did both roll my eyes and chuckle when I read that a very popular one is because it’s an easy way to get out of getting one’s significant other a Christmas present. SMDH.

This Time Of Year Is Ideal For A Holiday-Themed Staycation

Whew. Did you know that somewhere around 122 million Americans travel during the holiday season? Listen, I went to see my godbabies this past September and got caught up in a crazy ass traffic jam at BNA (the Nashville airport) that damn near has me considering air travel ever again — especially during this time of the year.

Besides, it’s not like it’s a written rule that you have to travel over the holidays. In fact, if you want to play it chill this year, why not enjoy a staycation instead? Although it might seem like it’s a “poor man’s compromise,” as you’re about to see, it actually…isn’t.
