Cardi B Talks Using Her Platform To Bring Awareness To Social Issues

Before the world knew Cardi B as an international pop star, she was an exotic dancer/social media sensation turned reality star. And with all of the fame, Cardi’s social media influence has only increased and she is making sure to use her platform for good. The “I Like It” artist is featured on the fourth season of David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction and she touched on speaking out on social issues

“I don’t really put a lot of political things in my music, but I used the f–k out of my platform,” Cardi said. “And I have used my platform even when I was a dancer. Because you might think that people are not looking, but they are.”

Cardi has supported Black Lives Matter and during the 2020 presidential race, she sat down with then-Democratic nominee Joe Biden to discuss racial injustices and health care. She’s even hit back at several conservatives on Twitter after they criticized her for getting involved in politics. The Grammy award-winning artist has had several Twitter spats and has even deleted her social media pages due to the fallout that may occur. However, she doesn’t let anyone discourage her from using her voice for the voiceless.

As an artist and influencer, Cardi knows what people come to her social media pages to see and she gives them what they want. But she also feeds them what they need.

“I mean, I’m a hood chick, and I’m from the Bronx,” she said. “A lot of people relate to me and follow me because they want to see how I’m dressed; they want to see my lifestyle. I feel like I have a responsibility to also share to them like, ‘Hey, while you here and you’re checking my outfit and checking my music, check out what’s going on over here in this part of the world.’”

The new season of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction premiered Friday. Check out the clip below.
