We love a good red carpet moment and this year had many from women and men alike. From neons to nudes, celebrities popped out on the in-person red carpets after they were shut down last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2021 was the year of the fashion moment comeback and we were more than here for it as celebrities gave us a taste of what we were missing amid lockdowns and virtual carpets. And we live! Here are some of the best red carpet moments of 2021.

Yara Shahidi just won’t keep her foot off of our necks. The actress wowed in Dior Haute couture at the 2021 Met Gala while channeling her inner Josephine Baker.

Euphoria actor Colman Domingo shined (literally) on the 2021 Oscars red carpet. He was draped in a custom fuschia Atelier Versace suit that included silver sequins.

It’s safe to say that neon is Michaela Coel’s color. The I May Destroy You creator and star looked like a Black goddess when she wore this Christopher John Rogers gown at the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards.

John Boyega got in touch with his African roots when he wore a white suit with a Louis Vuitton monogrammed scarf fashioned in a traditional African way. The Star Wars actor attended the virtual 2021 Critics Choice Awards.

Zoe Kravitz

While Zoe Kravitz can make a paper bag look sexy, the singer/actress opted for a barely-there Saint Laurent dress at the 2021 Met Gala that stopped everyone in their tracks.

Gabrielle Union

Gabrielle Union was giving modern-day queen of England while gracing the Fashion Awards red carpet in November. The L.A.’s Finest star wore a neon green Valentino ball gown that stole the show.

Daniel Kaluuya

While it may seem like Daniel Kaluuya kept it simple with an all-black suit, get into the details. The Get Out star wore a double-breasted Bottega Venetta suit with a Cartier chain that added a little something extra to the classic look while he attended the 2021 Oscars.

Cardi B shut down Paris Fashion Week in this sequin red Mugler gown. She also accessorized the look with ruby eyebrows and what looks like a cape made of feathers.

At the time, we launched It Girl 100 to spotlight the huge motion we were making as dope, GenZennial Black women leaving our mark on culture. The girls were on the rise, flourishing, drinking their water, minding their business, leading companies, and learning to do it all softly, in rest. We wanted to celebrate that momentum—because we love that for us.
