Even With Much Success, Doja Cat Admits She’s Not Happy

Fame, money and success doesn't equal happiness.

Celebrity News

Doja Cat has had a very prosperous few years in the music industry. She dropped two albums within two years, which charted well on Billboard, and her songs “Streets” and “Say So” from her 2019 project Hot Pink took over the internet during the pandemic due to them going viral on TikTok.

She also took home countless awards from MTV’s EMA’s to the VMA’s which she hosted and now she’s nominated for a Grammy along with Saweetie for their hit song “Best Friend.” But even with all the success, Doja isn’t happy.

Recently, the dynamic performer took to Instagram Live and shared with fans about the pressures in her career and not enjoying her fame.

“And I mean [I want to] make music like willy nilly, like just have fun and just jam and make some shit. I haven’t done that in maybe five years, feels like,” she said. “I’m doing all this shit that I don’t fucking wanna do. I don’t wanna take fucking pictures. Like, yes…planning a photoshoot is very fun. Capturing a concept, capturing a visual idea, like something like that, I love fashion, I do. I really do. I love to dress up, I love all that shit. Do I wanna do that shit because I have to? No! No, I don’t.”

“But I feel pressured to do shit like that. I don’t fucking wanna do that. I wanna be home. … I wanna make music, I wanna play fucking video games,” she concluded.

This isn’t the first time the 26-year-old rapper has expressed not being happy. In October, Doja fired off a series of tweets about being “tired,” but has since deleted them. The tweets reportedly read, “I’m just tired and I don’t want to do anything. I’m not happy. I’m done saying yes to motherfuckas cuz I can’t even have a week to just chill,” she said.

“I’m never not working. I’m fucking tired. Alex is getting old he’s 68 years old and I can’t even be there for him. I wanna be alone. It’s not anybody else’s fault but mine anyway I just keep agreeing to shit I don’t wanna do in the future. It’s my own dumb-ass fault. And then I’m too tired to put any effort into this shit cuz I’m so run down from everything else.”

We hope Doja gets the rest she needs.

Truth is, you can’t run from an idea that visits you every day and as we settle into another new year there's no better time to quit putting off that daydream and make it a reality, even if only part-time. When launching a business, taking it from an idea to reality isn't easy, however, I’m a strong believer that hard work and determination pay off for those that hustle. For fashion designer Megan Smith of Megan Renee, launching her namesake womenswear label was always the plan but it didn't happen overnight.

In I Know Why a Caged Bird Sings, poet and author Maya Angelou details the five-year period of her childhood when she was mute – unable to speak – after the man who had raped her was murdered shortly after being released from jail. “My voice killed that man,” Angelou recounts in an interview with Oprah Winfrey on how her seven-year-old logic led to her years-long bout of self-imposed silence. It was only through her voracious love of the written word that she would eventually reclaim her voice.

With the hectic lives we’ve lived in a pandemic these past two years, it's easy to feel as though 2022 will be a repeat of what preceded it. While I can't predict what the future holds, I can guarantee that there will be plenty of exciting moments filled with unforgettable looks ahead. As we press reset, one way to head into a new year is by making space in preparation for more to come in our lives, especially in our closets. When it comes to accessories, handbags are my weakness.

It's a time to set the tone for the year ahead by making resolutions, setting intentions, and creating lists of goals. All for the sole purpose of improvement and to manifest the life of one's dreams. Over the years, like millions of people worldwide, I have made numerous commitments towards having a healthier lifestyle.
