Mýa On Why She's Never Desired Marriage Or Kids: 'My Life Is Full Of Love'

"It's not even my focus and it never has been," she said. Being a product of divorced parents, the "Best of Me" artist revealed that she was always "fearful of those things" as it wasn't a "safe place" in her mind as a little girl. "I looked elsewhere and probably escaped too much in my work,” she admitted.

Mýa explained that navigating the music industry as an independent artist has taught her how to show up for herself, but because she's hardly home, she can't show up properly for her significant other. However, she's learned that love doesn't have to be from a partner. "I’m also now spiritually aligned so much where I know that I’m surrounded by love everywhere I go,” she said.

"I'm not seeking and I know that it will be granted to me in divine time and I'm not worried about it because my life is full of love and it comes in so many different forms, not just one person. So I've had to recalibrate my brain and not govern my life off of this fantasy or illusion that we've all been indoctrinated by or taught by."

She continued, "But when you have a vision as well and you're fighting for empowerment, especially for your women coming up. If you plan to be a label and sign young girls and be their protector, it requires you to show up differently and also think differently. So it hasn't been a focal point for me, and this is what it looks like.

"I'm very happy with myself, but that also required me to strip a lot of things that are expected of me on a specific timeline for the society that we grew up in to have. I'm talking about marriage. I'm talking about kids and if you don't have it, something's wrong with you."

She added, "But did I desire it? No. Not with what I witnessed and not what I've been through." However, she clarified that she is open to the idea.

In a January 2018 xoNecole exclusive, Mýa shared that while she was open to egg freezing and adoption, she wasn't necessarily pressed to have babies anytime soon. During her talk with Melyssa, she said that she has godchildren and lots of nieces and nephews (some blood related, some not), and she's satisfied with that.

"Right now, I'm on a specific assignment. That's all," she concluded.
