Trevor Noah Says He Believes In Marriage... But Not Cohabitation

First comes love, then comes marriage, and I think we all know the rest of the story. But where exactly does moving in together play into all of this? Is it better to live with your spouse before marriage so that you know exactly what you're getting into? Or do you have a more traditional perspective that forbids shacking-up before you jump the broom? If you ask South African comedian, Trevor Noah, the answer is "Nah", and that's a whole sentence. On a recent episode of TheHoward Stern Show, he was asked about his perspective on marriage, and Trevor had this to say:

"I'm not opposed to it. I don't know. I can only know where I am now in life and that's what I've learned to enjoy."

According to Trevor, although he can see himself as a married man in the future, he definitely doesn't plan on sharing a home with his one-day spouse.

"I'm a big advocate for not living together ever, even if you're married. I think one of the biggest reasons people get divorced and relationships breakup is because of this cohabiting bullshit that we've come to believe is the way relationships are supposed to be. You cannot tell me that everyone was designed to live the same way. Our intimacy can be expressed in different ways, and that's what's beautiful."

The Daily Show host was romantically involved with model Jordyn Taylor from 2015 until last summer and says that while dating and making new connections hasn't been difficult for him, doing the self-work has been his first priority. To Trevor, being her most authentic self is the sexiest trait a woman can have:

"When we meet people, we should tell them who we are, be honest. [Do] you know why? You should have the person love you or hate you for who you are. Not for who you portray yourself to be. How many people go into a relationship like a used car salesman, bullshitting about who they are?"

The actor empathized with the fact that sometimes our dating profile bio doesn't match up with who we are in real-life. Instead of selling yourself as a fun-loving, risk-taker who loves adventure, Trevor says you should keep it a buck and let your potential partner know you're actually more of a Netflix and Chiller because honestly, honesty is the best policy. He explained:

"I'm trying to be honest all the time, that's what I'm trying to be. That is true romance. When you lose the naïveté and you just enjoy it all."
