Marlon Wayans’ Moving Advice To Lupita Nyong'o Post-Breakup Are Words We All Need Sometimes

Breaking up is hard to do, no matter who you are. Following reports of a breakup with former partner Selema Masekela, Lupita Nyong’o took to Instagram to set the record straight about the “season of heartbreak” she is currently enduring.

In the Instagram post, she acknowledged the hardship she is navigating pales in comparison to the current state of the world but hinted that her own pain came about due to “deception.”

In both her caption and as an all-text carousel, the Black Panther actress wrote, “At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust…”

Though she didn’t name names, many are speculating that she is alluding to her previous public relationship with Selema, whom she debuted online in a now-deleted social post back in 2022. She continued, “I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.”

“I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, ‘Whatever, my life is better this way.’ But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love,” she wrote.

“And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass. The promise, they say, is that a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness. I hope it’s true…”

The Mexican-Kenyan actress ended her statement by writing, “I share this to keep it 💯, and hoping that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it.” She added, “Let’s face our pain so we don’t spread it.”

The transparent Instagram post has garnered nearly half a million likes since she published it to her account late last week. Her statement also caught the attention of fellow actor, Marlon Wayans who was spotted in the comment section sharing wise words of his own.

Among the sea of thousands of comments, the 51-year-old comedian praised Lupita for her new season and offered up some sage advice of his own. "Trust God," he wrote in his comment. "He wants better for you. All lessons are blessings especially the painful ones."

"Be kind to you as you heal," Marlon continued. "I always say whenever i have a break up 'lucky me, i get to love ME again. I missed you me'."

"Go love on you woman," his comment ended.
