LeToya Luckett Shares What She Would Have Told Herself During Her Time In Destiny’s Child

LeToya Luckett is reflecting on her time in Destiny’s Child. The singer/actress was one of the original members of the beloved girl group alongside Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and LaTavia Roberson. They climbed the charts in the late ‘90s early 2000’s with songs like “No, No, No, Pt. 2,” “Bills, Bills, Bills,” and “Bug a Boo.”

By their second album, The Writing’s on the Wall, LeToya and LaTavia were kicked out of the group and replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin. Years later, however, the H-Town-born and bred singer reemerged with a successful solo singing career and acting career. But it took her a while to find the confidence in herself to pursue music on her own. The mom of two recently appeared on the Good Moms Bad Choices podcast and was asked what she learned during the time she was in the group.

“With a lot of partnerships, we lose ourselves to become one,” she said. “With DC (Destiny’s Child), my role was like, the soprano, or whatever. So, coming out of DC, that was the only thing I thought I could sing.”

Being limited to one role in Destiny’s Child ultimately affected her confidence. “For so long, I felt like I had sacrificed myself for the greater good. It did something to my confidence.” Now that she’s older and decades removed from that time in her life, she’s able to look back at her younger self and share what she would tell her today.

“I think that that would be the one thing that I would tell my younger self is ‘Don’t lose yourself, baby,” she said. “You still matter. Still remain confident in who God created you to be and the gift that he gave you. You don’t have to shrink yourself to be good at your role.” Even with all the ups and downs that they went through in the group, they’ve managed to move on. “I learned so much from that situation,” she added. “And gratefully, we’re all still really cool. It’s beautiful that after so many years, the love is still there.”

In September 2018, Destiny’s Child fans were gagging after LeToya reunited with Beyoncé during the On the Run II Tour in their hometown. In July of that same year, the singer also revealed in an interview with The YBF that Kelly was one of the first people to know that she was expecting.

We love seeing the DC girls growing and flourishing whether they are together or apart.
