Tami Roman Opens Up About Her Pregnancy At Age 45: 'I'm Not Going To Act Like I'm Not Scared'

Tami Roman and Reggie YoungBlood

It's never too late for a blessing!

It's safe to say that these days, more and more women are getting their "second wind" in life a little later, be it in our careers or another shot at love, we're no longer like our grandmothers before us. Instead of being condemned for not having certain things at 30, most of us are actually "getting our life" at 40, trying out a second marriage, chasing our passion projects and investing in our careers much more than before.

Long story short- Our "To-Do" list is still the same, but our deadlines have changed.

Which brings us to the topic of the fabulously forty and pregnant: Tami Roman!

We recently spoke to the Basketball Wife who, just eight months after revealing to the world that she had found love in 28-year-old Houstonian, Reggie Youngblood, confirmed she's 6 weeks pregnant! The reality star vet made the surprise reveal on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta After Party when she slipped and blamed her "cottage cheese" thighs and "muffin top" on her pregnancy. You go girl!

This will be Reggie's first child while Tami is already a mom to daughters Jazz, 18, and Lyric, 20, from her previous marriage to former NBA player Kenny Anderson. The interesting thing about the announcement is that not long ago, Tami admitted on Marriage Boot Camp that she did not want anymore kids, while Reggie did said he "needed" one.

I really want kids. I need one. I wouldn't be cool with adoption. If it goes to that, I'd probably get a surrogate or something of that nature. Because I can understand she probably wouldn't want that stress on her body.

We guess Tami caved in!

Of course the news didn't come without any criticism. Although Tami joins the likes of 40+ year old women having kids, such as Halle Berry and Gwen Stefani, it didn't stop spectators from speaking their piece about Tami and her "late" pregnancy.

Peep what the soon to be mommy-of-three had to tell us about the criticism, her pregnancy and her concerns, below:

On Her Decision to Have a Child at This Point in Her Life

I am in a committed relationship with a younger man who has never had children. In an effort to compromise for the benefit of our relationship, and because I am in love with this person, I decided to have a child with him and I am happy I made the decision to do so.

Marriage Bootcamp helped us a great deal in all aspects, especially communication. It showed us that we do love each other and are in it for the long haul.

On Why She Announced the News So Early

I don't know...wanting to share my excitement with the people who have shown me love. I hope I didn't jinx myself. I hope and pray that will not be the case.

On If Her Childbirth At This Age Concerns Her

I'm not going to act like I'm not afraid. Deciding to have a child at the age of 45 is very risky and when I first found out that I was definitely pregnant I went through a lot of emotions; fear, excitement, anxiety and stress.  I find resolve in knowing that the person I am having this child with absolutely adores me and wants to build a family with me so I'm excited about the possibility of that.

I think all babies are miracles! As it pertains to Halle, I looked at her as inspiration and said she did it, Alyssa Milano did it, Gwen Stefani did it, Julianna Margolis did it... Why not me? People put more emphasis on my age when this is not new, other women have done it and received nothing but congratulations, [so] not sure why my announcement was viewed so negatively.

On if She Had Issues with Conception

Surprisingly, I have always been very fertile. I didn't really feel the anticipation that other women experience with regard to attempting to have a child. I didn't have fertility treatments or freeze my eggs. It was the grace of God.

On the Reaction From Her Family When She Told them the News

My daughters are very happy and excited about having a sibling. They've wanted one for awhile, but I wasn't interested in crossing that bridge in my previous relationships. They will be amazing big sisters and BABY SITTERS! [laughs]

Tammy also revealed that she will not be returning to Basketball Wives as a cast member, but will instead be a recurring guest on Basketball Wives LA this coming season. She also will be featured in a new sitcom called 'The Assist,' where she will star alongside LA Laker's Nick Young (aka Iggy's fiancé), singer Boroke Valentine and newcomer Paris Phillips.

Working mama!

It's obvious that Tami's pregnancy draws the most concern due to her age and the to health risks that many of us women face when trying to conceive after 35. Often these risks are to ourselves or our unborn children. However, while doctors say a woman's chances of getting pregnant significantly decrease after 40, there are many exceptions to the rule, and one can't help it if they are low-key 'Fertile Myrtle'.  Again, when Halle Berry became pregnant with her son Maceo at 46, the last thing on her mind was taking any pregnancy precautions, especially since she had been told that menopause was right around the corner.

I didn't think it was possible at my age, honestly. They call it a geriatric pregnancy. I was, you know, on my way," This is probably way TMI, but I was kinda premenopausal, so to have this happen was huge.

Huge indeed! Congrats to Tammy and Reggie!
