Should You Return The Ring When The Relationship Ends? Crystal Harris & Ne-Yo Say Yes

These two prove not all breakups have to be bitter.

Celebrity News

When it comes to the end of a relationship, ya girl is premium-level petty.

I'm keeping your sh*t, deleting messages, blocking contacts, and I also want my heart, love, time, and whatever TF else I gave you returned in its original condition. That's that on that.

But as I mature, I've grown to learn that not all breakups have to be bitter and my exes don't always have to be the bad guy. Just ask Crystal Smith and Ne-Yo, who recently announced their divorce after four years of marriage. According to them, they've done so amicably. In a recent episode of Joe Budden's Pull Up, Ne-Yo sat down with the former rapper and confirmed that despite his recent split with his ex, there is no bad blood:

"Without incriminating myself, without incriminating her, and without putting any negative connotation on this, I will say that neither one of us was exactly who we needed to be in order for this to last, and that's why it didn't. Bottom line. I own mine, she owns hers, and the craziest thing is there's no beef, there's no animosity, there's no love lost because we both understand that."

While the end of a marriage can also very well mean the end of a friendship, apparently Ne-Yo and his soon-to-be ex-wife are totally cool with the decision. The singer says Crystal even returned her wedding ring. He explained:

"She's never been money-petty like that. That's not her."

In the interview, Ne-Yo also addressed rumors behind his latest single "Pinky Ring", which he previewed shortly after announcing his divorce. Although some listeners assumed the track was a jab at his former lover, Ne-Yo revealed that the lyrics to the song were rooted in real-life events and ultimately the result of him making the best out of a bad situation.

"The song is talking about me and how I'm handling what could be a sad situation if I allow it to be that. I'm looking at it from the positive angle of she gave back the wedding ring--that means I'm not married no more. As opposed to sitting and being sad about it, I'm going to flip it. I'm going to keep it pimping. I'm going to move."

The singer explained that despite him being very much in love at one time, the two have decided that their romantic journey has come to an end and have now chosen to focus on becoming the best possible co-parents to their one-year-old.

"I am not miserable at all. I am in a great space. There's nothing miserable about realizing what works for you and what doesn't. Ain't nothing bad about that. It doesn't have to be a terrible thing. It doesn't have to be a bad thing. It doesn't have to be a sad thing. I prefer to stay on the positive side of the energy. We know they both exist and you have to acknowledge the negative, but you don't have to dwell."
