This Hair Trend Is Taking Over In 2020, Here's Everything You Need To Know

While I love a fresh set of box braids and a silk press, I've grown jaded with my normal styles and with the new year rapidly approaching, it's time to try some new sh*t. If you, too, are looking to switch up your look this season, this style may be your key to leveling your locs just in time for the holidays.

As the name suggests, microlocs are smaller versions of normally pencil-sized dreadlocks and can be started using a number of methods, including braids, interlocking, and twists. Most women opt for this option versus traditional dreadlocks because they are neater, more versatile, and even easier to maintain. Much like Sisterlocs, microlocs offer a more voluminous look upon completion.

For your locs to meet the criteria and actually be considered microlocs, they must be smaller than a pencil, leaving you with more than 100 coily locs after the style is fully installed. Although there is no established formula for installing microlocs, the style requires at least 6 to 8 hours of your time every few months, and after checking out how these naturalistas made the style work for them, it's a commitment we're willing to make.

Dalen Spratt is a television producer, owner of a tailored men's suit line, and creator of Ghost Brothers: Haunted Houseguests, which is currently streaming on Destination America. Stacey Spratt is also a serial entrepreneur, focusing mostly on events and the nonprofit world, and she is the owner of two award-winning craft beer bars called Harlem Hops. But their accolades are not what united them.

In January, it was announced that feminine-care brand The Honey Pot was acquired by Compass Diversified for $380 million. Black women expressed outrage with commentary on why Black founders “sell out” and stressed their concerns about The Honey Pot changing their ingredients, similar to their outrage when their products went from being listed as "Black-owned" to "Black-founded" in 2022.
