We wish all apologies sounded this good!
Nigerian Lauryn Hill fans were disappointed this weekend when the soulful singer was a no-show to MayDay Live in Lagos. MayDay Live is a concert to celebrate Workers' Day in Nigeria and she was scheduled to be the headlining act for the event. The May 1st show went on without her, but Lauryn knew she still wanted to smooth things over with her fans. So, she went to her Facebook page to post an apology and explain why she was MIA.
Hello Lagos, Nigeria!
We are disappointed to report that we will not be performing at tonight's concert. From our end, we did everything we were supposed to do, including waiting at the airport for many hours, ready to fly out and share the evening with you. Unfortunately, after much effort, the promoter was not able to get all of our travel arrangements taken care of. This prevented us from being able to fly into Nigeria in time to make the concert. We were all very excited to come, and very disappointed that we couldn't make this one. HOWEVER, we are working to reschedule our appearance ASAP. From what we've been told, the promoter intends to honor all tickets sold. Our best to and for Lagos. Love and Blessings!
Ms. Lauryn Hill and the MLH band and Production Team.
Since she wasn't able to take the stage in Lagos, Lauryn created a special performance for MayDay attendees in her living room. She grabbed her guitar, fly black derby hat, and background singers for an acoustic version of her 1998 hit single "Doo Wop (That Thing)." In the video, she strummed an upbeat tempo and rapped the song's famous lyrics while her singers served up flawless harmony. Ms. Hill even let her 7-year-old daughter Sarah add her vocals in the mix and she once again promised she would be in Nigeria soon:
"Listen, we’re very sorry we couldn’t be there with you tonight. We were at the airport for seven hours yesterday, trying to get to you. But we’re gonna make it there, we’re gonna get there. We wish everyone a wonderful evening, and we’re gonna leave you with this.”
Lauryn has been known to pull out of performances but it seems as though this time was nowhere near her fault.
Suddenly, we want to pull out our Miseducation of Lauryn Hill CDs!
