Here's What H.E.R. Had To Say About Being On Track To Becoming An EGOT Winner

H.E.R. is eyeing EGOT status. The über-talented star has racked up multiple Grammy awards and an Oscar (Best Original Song for "Fight for You" from the 2021 film, Judas and the Black Messiah), which means she’s halfway there to achieving the goal. EGOT refers to Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, and Whoopi Goldberg is the first and only Black woman to accomplish this feat.

John Legend is also an EGOT winner and is the first and only Black man to do so. While H.E.R. admitted that she would like to be added to the prestigious list, she’s not necessarily going out of her way for it. "Of course, that's always the goal, but I'm not really doing things like, 'OK, I got to do this because I want the EGOT,'" she told PopSugar.

"I have ambitions to be in TV and film as an actress, maybe be on Broadway, create my own play, score films, things like that. I think my ambition and my passion is really going to take me there more than anything . . . I'm halfway there like you said, so it's not too far of a reach."

And she’s right. She’s currently gearing up for the 2022 Grammy Awards and this year she’s received eight nominations.

While she has been on our musical playlists for the last few years, her recent project Back of My Mind is actually her debut album. She explained that her nominations make her feel like she’s “doing something right.”

"I feel like it's kind of telling me I'm here for the long game. I've been working so hard in music and on my craft that for this to happen, I dreamt about this. It's kind of like, OK, I'm here, and I'm here to stay. Like I earned my stripes or something, but it's really special."

There’s a high possibility that the 24-year-old will be going home with another Grammy (or two) and it looks like there may be another Oscar on the horizon as well.

The singer will now be adding actress to her already impressive resume after scoring a role in The Color Purple musical movie. She will be playing the role of Squeak who is a waitress and aspiring professional singer.
