It's been an amazing year for television and emerging media and tonight marks the night we watch as actors are awarded the oh-so coveted golden statuette given by The Academy.
Each year around the end of the September, the The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, often noted as The Academy, gathers to honor the most excellent creatives who make our lives better through their work. Fun fact: the Emmy statuette is a winged woman holding an atom and it is now the symbol of the TV Academy's goal of supporting and uplifting the art and science of television. Since women run the world, there's no better muse. And I'd like to think since she's gold, she is definitely a black woman.
Speaking of black women, with Beyonce's slew of nominations including Outstanding Variety Special for Homecoming and Ava DuVernay's much-deserved NINE nominations for When They See Us, we don't think we have ever been so anxious and excited for this awards ceremony. We are showing up and telling our stories and whether we get praise for it or not, that's enough.
Now for the riveting stuff – the fashions. Let's get into some of our favorite lewks from the star-studded night.
Black and white has never looked so decadent. The How to Get Away With Murder star is no stranger to the Emmys. The highly nominated and highly melanated star wore a jaw-dropping Alberta Ferretti ensemble. Best of all, she brought CurlFest to the Emmys rocking her natural hair.
