Tika Sumpter Talk Mental Health And Instilling Self-Love In Her Daughter
For someone like Tika Sumpter who is busy being a working actress, mother, wife, and businesswoman, finding personal time can be tough. But the Nobody’s Fool star makes herself a priority. In an interview with Yahoo Life, Tika shared how she manages time for herself even if that means taking a “bath in the middle of the day.” It doesn’t hurt that she has a very supportive husband who helps relieve some of that stress. In May, Tika married her The Haves and Haves Not co-star Nick James and they share a 5-year-old daughter named Ella-Loren.
“I totally took the pressure off of me, motherhood-wise. Like, I said, 'Okay, I'm not going to live up to every standard that has been put in our past, like being there all the time, in every moment,'" she revealed.
She added, "I have an amazing husband, who is very involved with our child and so I allow him to be a dad."
When she’s back in mother mode, she likes to instill powerful words of affirmation about self-love and positivity in her daughter.
“Since she was a little girl I started being like, 'I am intelligent,' and she goes, 'I am intelligent, I am beautiful,' all those things," she said. "I just want to put all the positive goodness in her head, that she is all these things, so that when the world tells her she's not, the self-talk automatically goes back to 'I know I am these things that my mother and father instilled in me.'"
The newlywed has also been on a personal journey to wellness and co-created Sugaberry, a media company focusing on Black women’s mental health. One of the ways that Tika checks in with her mental health is by meditating which is also something she says her daughter has picked up on. "She saw me meditate and now she created an 'office' where she takes me in to meditate. She walks me through talking meditations… I'm like, nobody's gonna believe me," she said.
The 42-year-old actress co-founded Sugaberry with Thai Randolph who is the President and COO of Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud company and Hartbeat Productions. She shared why it was essential to create a mental wellness platform for Black women.
"I think for so long, especially Black women always hold up everybody else, and we forget about ourselves. And so I think when women in sisterhood tell each other it's okay to let go for a while, there's something about giving somebody permission," explained.

Skylar Marshai Talks Hair Reset With SheaMoisture Bond Repair 'Revive & Thrive' Campaign
This article is in partnership with SheaMoisture
Skylar Marshai is known for her extravagant style, and her hair is no exception. But now, she’s giving her hair a break and focusing on hair care with SheaMoisture’s Bond Repair Collection. “I feel like my hair has always been an extension of my storytelling because I know it's so innately linked to my self-expression that I've been thinking a lot about how my love for crafting my hair into these different forms and shapes has honestly never given it a chance to just be,” Skylar explains.
“So for the next few weeks, I will be wearing my natural hair out.” The SheaMoisture Bond Repair Collection is infused with AminoBlend and HydroPlex technology, scientifically proven to make hair 6x stronger with 84% less breakage by repairing and rebuilding broken hair bonds (vs. non-conditioning shampoo). That’s why it's the perfect hair reset for Skylar.
“It's been a long, long time since I've worn my natural curls. I haven’t nurtured it in its natural form so I’m scared of breakage, of it being dry, of it being damaged,” she admits. “I do feel like my hair is in good hands because I will be using the SheaMoisture Bond Repair Collection and it’s known for repairing damaged hair making it smoother, making it stronger like all of these very real concerns I have.”
Thanks to the unique blend of Amino Blend Complex (fortifying amino acids), Amla oil, and fair-trade shea butter used in each product, the hair will become visibly healthier after just one use. That’s because the collection focuses on repairing and reviving dry, damaged hair due to color, protective styles, heat, and more. This 4-step system, which includes Bond Repair Shampoo, Bond Repair Conditioner, Bond Repair Masque, and Bond Repair Leave-in, also enhances weakened hair bonds to reduce future breakage.
Skylar shows us how she uses the collection and it’s giving big, beautiful, healthy hair. “So I think it's gonna be some beauty to allowing my hair to rest,” she says. When it comes to styling, the influencer is “just gonna let Mother Nature do her thing.” Learn more about the SheaMoisture Bond Repair Collection below.

Model-Approved Skincare: Tabria Majors' Guide To Glowing Skin
In About Face, xoNecole gets the 411 on IGers who give us #skincaregoals on a daily. Here, they break down their beauty routines on the inside and out, as well as the highly coveted products that grace their shelves and their skin.
Tabria Majors is a content creator and fashion model who always serves face. Her fierce attitude in the model world has landed her major campaigns and started groundbreaking conversations. She broke the internet with a photoshoot that showcased the reality of being a plus-size model in the industry. The photograph was a clapback to Emily Ratajkowski's photoshoot with M Magazine, where the model was seen wearing an oversized pair of jeans. “I’ve been modeling for ten-plus years now, and the erasure of models my size or bigger has been crazy to witness in real-time,” says Majors.
Although Majors is deeply opinionated and passionate about the fashion space, she’s also a sweet girl from Nashville with a love for beauty. “Growing up in the South, I wasn’t aware of my appearance. Still, I always kept my beauty routine simple with a face wash and lotion every day,” says Majors. College is where Majors' relationship with beauty began to strengthen. Implementing a basic skincare regimen to keep her skin in great health. “I’ve followed all the trends in beauty. From a simple skincare routine to a step routine, I’ve learned that keeping it simple is best.”
At the same time, Majors began to enter the modeling world, where she learned tips from makeup artists on how to better care for her skin. Unlike her hometown, there was now a greater emphasis on how Majors looked due to the industry that she was in. Moving to Los Angeles also came with pressure to keep up with beauty standards. The pressure made Majors feel like she had to be “perfect.” Constantly picking at her features to appease a standard of beauty. “I’ve learned that trying to be perfect is unrealistic, and if you do, it’s an unpleasant existence.” Separating from the pressure of living up to being perfect has helped her develop a new relationship with beauty - internal beauty.
“I’ve learned that trying to be perfect is unrealistic, and if you do, it’s an unpleasant existence.”
Becoming a mom has made Majors look at beauty from a different lens. She doesn’t want her child to emphasize how she looks as she once did. Majors is setting an example for his daughter by practicing kindness and prioritizing her internal self by doing the 75 Hard Challenge. A wellness routine that consists of the following: reading 10 pages of a book, drinking water, workout, meditating, journaling, etc. The exercise is supposed to improve mental health. “Inner beauty radiates far more than outer beauty. Being a good person is always going to be most important.”
